WHY DO MY FEET/TOES GO NUMB WHILE WORKING OUT?

This is related to your foot position and may be elevated by making minor adjustments to your body positioning on the elliptical.

Try the following to prevent feet/toes from numbing:

  • Position your feet on different areas on the foot pedal.
  • Minimize leaning forward too much.
  • Try maintaining an upright posture so blood is able to flow down to your feet.

SHOULD MY HEEL RISE OFF THE PEDALS WHILE I’M RIDING THE OCTANE FITNESS ELLIPTICAL?

Yes, this is normal. Like walking, lifting your heels off the pedals is a natural motion. Two things determine how much your foot comes off the pedal; body position and pedal articulation. With body position the more you lean forward the more your foot comes off the pedal. Pedal articulation, or how much the pedal pivots, will be impacted as the pedal follows your foot’s movement. It is natural for the heel to rise faster than the toe when going forward.

HOW IS DISTANCE CALCULATED ON OCTANE FITNESS ELLIPTICALS?

The distance is calculated by using a formula that incorporates RPM (speed) and stride length. A point of reference for Octane machines is that averaging between 50-60 RPMs will equate to roughly an 8-minute mile.

The Octane Fitness formula also accounts for a “glide factor.” During jogging or running, there is a moment when both feet are in the air and the person is traveling distance. This “glide factor” translates into further distance than what your leg’s stride would be. The “glide factor” is incorporated into the calculation as well. This is an industry standard with elliptical cross trainers; however, each manufacturer may incorporate the “glide factor” differently.

CAN I UPDATE MY EXISTING MACHINE WITH A NEW X OR XI CONSOLE?

No, older model Q37 and Q47 ellipticals cannot be updated with x or xi consoles. Unfortunately the new console types are not compatible.

WHAT IS A HIP NUMBER?

Your HIP number is the distance from your hip socket joint through your knee to your heel.

Research conducted on behalf of Octane Fitness has found that the distance from your hip socket joint through your knee to your heel is the most precise measurement to determine an appropriate stride length. We call this measurement your Hip Indexing Pivot (HIP) number.

HOW DO I CLEAN MY OCTANE FITNESS MACHINE?

Exterior surfaces, tracks and rollers:

To clean plastic shrouds, handlebars, pedals, tracks and rollers, Octane Fitness recommends using a mild soap/water solution and a clean, dry cloth. Apply cleaning solution directly on the cloth before wiping down the machine. Thoroughly dry machine with a clean, dry cloth or paper towels.

Important: Never spray cleaning solutions directly on the machine, and never use cleaning solution on the consoles or PVS. Do NOT use WD-40® or any type of silicone spray on the racks or rollers. If used, it can cause an increase in squeaking.

Consoles and PVS:

To clean consoles and PVS displays, use a clean, dry microfiber cloth to remove excess sweat, moisture and debris.

Important: Keep liquids away from console, and do NOT spray cleaners directly onto console or get moisture into any openings. Do NOT use aerosol sprays, solvents, abrasives or gym wipes on the console.
